The invention discloses a cruise control system for a manual transmission automobile and a control method based on the cruise control system. The cruise control system is used for carrying out closed-loop control on a cruise target speed by taking an ignition switch, a cruise request switch and a cruise acceleration/deceleration switch as basic input signals of an intention of a driver, taking a gear signal, a brake switch signal, a clutch switch signal, an accelerator pedal signal and the like as auxiliary input signals and taking an automobile speed signal as a main input signal through controlling the opening of a throttle (the output torque of an engine is controlled by controlling the air inflow), thus realizing the cruise control function of a vehicle. The system and the control method disclosed by the invention are simple in structure, reasonable in control method and safety and reliable to operate.
