The invention provides a method and device for limiting smart television set using. A first preset application for limiting smart television set using and a second preset application for playing video resources in a smart television server are installed in a smart television set; a limiting level attribute list comprising the corresponding relation between a video file and the limiting level attribute of the video file is preset; the first preset application comprises a video limit operation inlet. The method comprises the steps that when a control signal trigging the video limit operation inlet is received, the video limiting function is enabled; when a control signal for watching any video file is received, if the limiting level attribute of the video file is in the limiting level, a preset password in the first application is called to be input into an interface and displayed, and therefore the video file is played after the correct password is received. Accordingly, using of video resources in the limiting level in the smart television server can be effectively limited, and particularly parents can limit children from watching video resources in the limiting level.
