The invention discloses a rainwater collecting method. The method is characterizing by including the steps of a, a standing column is disposed on an open ground, and a rainwater collecting mechanism which comprises a vertical rod, a slide sleeve, long rods, a water passing sleeve and umbrella fabric is disposed below the standing column; b, during a rainy day, rainwater accumulates on the upper surface of the umbrella fabric, all the long rods, inner short rods and outer short rods spread synchronously when the weight of the rainwater is larger than the elastic force of tension springs and the slide sleeve moves downwardly; when the rain stops, all the long rods, the inner short rods and the outer short rods synchronous retract, and the long rods, the inner short rods and the outer short rods completely retract when all the rainwater on the upper surface of the umbrella fabric is discharged; c, if rainwater collecting is not needed, a rope can be tied outside the umbrella fabric. The rainwater collecting device is in a retraction state during sunny days and occupies a small space, the device is automatically switched to an open state during the rainy days, the rainwater can be collected through the umbrella fabric, and the device can restore the retraction state automatically after the rain stops.
