The invention relates to a method for automatically driving, in particular parking, a motor vehicle (1) which has a drive device for driving the motor vehicle (1), a brake device for braking the motor vehicle (1) and a gearbox device, wherein in a normal operating mode the brake device carries out automatic braking during the automatic driving. In this context there is provision that when a fault occurs in the brake device during the automatic driving an emergency operating mode is implemented in which the motor vehicle (1) is braked automatically to the stationary state only by means of the drive device and/or the gearbox device. The invention also relates to a driver assistance device.
