Summary: | A two-piece, thermally resistant metal alloy heat shield (40) is provided for the central discharge orifice (34) of a two-fluid nozzle (10) for atomizing a liquid with a gas. The nozzle has at least a central conduit (12) and annular conduit (not shown) converging in an internal mixing zone for the liquid and gas and a central discharge orifice (34) having a shoulder (38) at its upstream end. The heat shield includes a retaining ring (46) and an outwardly flaring liner (44) for the orifice (34). The liner (44) is attached to the retaining ring (46) which bears against the shoulder (38) and is held in place by the flared construction at its downstream end. Preferably, the liner (44) has heat conductive flexible packing (54) disposed between its outside surface and the orifice (34). The orifice (34) may open into a protective cap (28) which is cylindrical at one end (30) and rounds out to an elliptical end surface (32). |
