The invention relates to the technical field of video playing, and particularly to a method for positioning a media content and a system thereof, wherein the method comprises the steps of: acquiring a media source file by a central server and a plurality of operator servers; analyzing the media source file by the central server for obtaining positioning information which is based on program content and comprises a positioning frame; transmitting the positioning information to matching equipment of the plurality of operator servers by the central server; and matching the acquired media source file by the matching equipment of the operator server according to the positioning information, thereby acquiring an accurate characteristic identification of the media source file.
