Summary:The invention provides a fixing device capable of preventing deformation of a fixing belt or pressure roller due to thermal difference. A heater (23) includes heat generators (32) arranged in a width direction of a recording medium. When an unfixed image on the a paper P passing through a clamping portion N has an image area and a non-image area, power supplied to each of the heat generators (32) is controlled so that, of the heat generators (32), an image area heat generator (32X) corresponding to the image area X becomes a higher temperature and non-image area heat generators (32Y) corresponding to the non-image area (Y) becomes a lower temperature. When more than three non-image area heat generators (32Y) are adjacent to each other, power supplied to one of the non-image area heat generators (32Y) closer to the image area (X) is set to be stepwisely greater than power supplied to another of the second heat generators farther from the image area.
