The invention provides an illumination light source which enables a circuit board provided in a drive circuit to be positioned inside a case while retaining the effective area of the circuit board. An LED unit (1) which serves as an illumination light source that is attached to lighting equipment (101) includes: a light-emitting element; a circuit board (70) provided in a drive circuit which drives the light-emitting element; a case (50) inside of which the circuit board (70) is disposed; and a connecting component (53) at least a portion of which is disposed inside the case (50), for electrically connecting the lighting equipment (101) and the drive circuit. The case (50) includes a positioning portion (54) which determines a position of the circuit board (70), and the circuit board (70) includes an opening (71) into which the connecting component (53) is inserted, and which determines the position of the circuit board (70) by way of the rim of the opening (71) abutting the positioning portion (54).
