A process for preparing a setting and hardening accelerator for mineral binders comprises the following steps: a) reacting a calcium compound CV with a silicon compound SV, and b) adding an acidic compound having a molecular weight of not more than 200 g/mol, more particularly 40 - 100 g/mol.
