The apparatus for measuring volume of the powder layer is provided with a camera (21), a lifting device (23) making the camera moving upward in a vertical direction, a backlight component (30) arranged in a position of the same direction of the camera, a transparent or translucent cylindrical container (104) and a control device (40) for controlling actions. The lifting device is provided with a displacement measuring device (42). The displacement measuring device (42) detects the displacement of the camera in the vertical direction from the determined position from the control device. images shot by the camera is analyzed by the image analyzing device (41) and powder face position of the powder layer in the cylindrical container is measured, and the size of the powder layer is calculated according to the initial determined position and the powder face position.
