Summary:The purpose of the present invention is to provide a light-emitting element with good light-emission properties, a light-emitting device provided with said light-emitting element, and a light-emitting element production method. Specifically provided are organic EL elements (10a, 10b, 10c) comprising at least a hole injection layer (4) and a light-emitting layer (6) layered between a first electrode (2) and a second electrode (8), and a light-emitting layer (6) in a region defined by banks (5). The hole injection layer (4) is formed in a recessed structure wherein the upper surface in the region defined by the banks (5) has subsided. Edges (4c) of recessed sections in the recessed structure in the hole injection layer (4) are covered by part of the banks (5).
