The invention discloses a method and a device for optical module parameter transmission. The method includes: after receiving a parameter reading instruction sent from a main unit, sending backup parameters stored in a backup parameter register to the main unit if determining that update marks of the read parameters are set; otherwise, sending the parameters stored in a parameter register to the main unit. Both the parameter register and the backup parameter resistor are multi-byte, and the update marks are set before updating of the parameters stored in the parameter register, and then are reset after updating of the parameters stored in the parameter register. As the update marks are set during updating of the acquired parameters, the main unit can be prevented from mistakenly reading parameters from a new parameter register which is in updating, and accordingly reliability of parameter transmission from an optical module to the main unit is improved.
