The invention relates to a novel energy conversion system which comprises a bi-directional rectifier whose input terminal is connected to an upper level power grid and a bi-directional rectifier whose output terminal is connected to a lower level power grid. An output terminal of the bi-directional rectifier and an input terminal of the bi-directional inverter are connected to a direct current bus respectively. The direct current bus is connected to an energy storage device. The invention also provides a novel energy conversion method.
