The invention provides an ammonium-free deliming agent and an application thereof in a leather deliming process. The deliming agent comprises polysuccinimides selecting from polysuccinimide and hydroxysuccinimide and existing in the ammonium-free deliming agent in a liquid or powder form. Under the condition that the polysuccinimides exist in the ammonium-free deliming agent in the liquid form, the content of the polysuccinimides is over 50wt%, preferably over 60wt%, more preferably over 70wt%, and most preferably over 75wt%; and under the condition that the polysuccinimides exist in the ammonium-free deliming agent in the powder form, the content of the polysuccinimides is over 93wt%, preferably over 95wt%, more preferably over 98wt%. The deliming agent can replace acids and ammonium salts and can be hydrolyzed under a deliming condition.
