Summary:Determination is performed as to whether or not a purple fringe (PF) is generated for each pixel (P(i,j)) of interest (step 41). The RGB ratio of the PF-generating pixel (P(i,j)) determined to be generating a PF and the RGB ratio of a PF-converging pixel (P(m,n)) separated by N pixels from the PF-generating pixel (P(i,j)) in a vicinal range of the PF-generating pixel (P(i,j)) are calculated (steps 42, 43). A correction coefficient Rev(i,j) where the RGB ratio of the PF-generating pixel (P(i,j)) approaches the RGB ratio of the PF converging pixel (P(m,n)) is calculated (step 44). The calculated correction coefficient Rev(i,j) is used to correct the color of the PF-generating pixel (P(i,j)). The color of the image section where the purple fringe is generated is corrected, and the purple fringe is therefore no longer conspicuous.
