The invention discloses a data transmission method and data transmission equipment applied to a video monitoring system. The method comprises that: after receiving a notice of transmitting a media stream to a media stream receiver from a video management server (VM), a media stream transmitter establishes transmission control protocol (TCP) connection with the media stream receiver, and acquires round trip time (RTT) with the media stream receiver in the establishment process of the TCP connection; the media stream transmitter acquires a TCP connection number from the VM according to the RTT, wherein the TCP connection number is determined according to the size of a TCP sliding window, the RTT and the needs of a video monitoring service in bandwidth; and the media stream transmitter establishes the TCP connection in a corresponding number with the media stream receiver according to the TCP connection number returned by the VM, and transmits media streams to the media stream receiver by the TCP connection in t
