A cross- linked rubber composition, comprising a diene rubber and a masterbatch material comprising between 50 and 75 wt.% natural rubber and between 25 and 50 wt.% crumb rubber particles, wherein the crumb rubber particles are 40 mesh or smaller. A method for preparing a rubber composition having crumb rubber, the method comprising mixing a masterbatch, the masterbatch comprising between 50 and 75 wt.% natural rubber and between 25 and 50 wt.% crumb rubber particles and mixing the masterbatch with a diene rubber.
