Summary:A differential protection device comprises a differential failure measuring and processing circuit which is used for providing a tripping signal (D) to an actuator (4). A detection module (13) detects high-energy signals (11,12) which interfere the measurement of a differential current. An inhibit signal (14) which is connected with the detection module (13) inhibits supplying of the tripping signal when the existence of the high-energy signals (11,12) is detected by the detection module. The existence of the high-energy signals (11,12) is detected through monitoring a zero crossing point with no measurement signal (Ids) in a predefined time interval (TI). The differential protection method comprises the following steps: measuring the high-energy signals which interfere the measurement of the differential current measurement signal, and inhibiting the tripping when the measurement is interfered by the high-energy signals.
