Summary:The invention discloses a method and a system for converting the format of a media file. The method comprises the following steps of: acquiring the media information of the media file supported by user equipment according to the model of the user equipment; according to the media information, selecting an encoder which can encode the media file supported by the user equipment from a media encoding database; and encoding a file to be converted by using the selected encoder and generating the media file supported by the user equipment. Based on the method, the system mainly comprises a media information acquiring module, an encoder selecting module and an encoding module. The method and the system can greatly reduce the configuration time of a user and meet requirements of more users.
