The invention discloses a laser switching-off device and a switching-off method thereof, which are suitable for optical transmission modules and belong to the technical field of optical communication. The device comprises an upper computer, a laser, a singlechip, a resistor and a laser driving chip, wherein one end of the resistor is connected to a laser switching-off hardware input pin of the upper computer, while the other end is connected to a laser switching-off software control pin of the singlechip and a laser switching-off enabling pin of the laser driving chip respectively. When the upper computer generates a software switching-off command, the command controls the laser driving chip to switch off the laser through the singlechip; and when laser switching-off hardware of the upper computer sends a switching-off command out, the switching-off command controls the laser driving chip to switch off the laser.
