Summary:Disclosed is a method for producing a liquefied fuel oil by using a biomass as a raw material in a relatively inexpensive liquefaction treatment apparatus, which enables to keep a good balance between the liquefaction of lignin (a water-insoluble component) and the liquefaction of cellulose (a water-soluble component), can produce the liquefied fuel oil in high yield relative to the solid content of the biomass, and can produce the liquefied fuel oil with a reduced content of ash derived from an alkali catalyst or the like. The method is characterized by mixing a biomass containing lignocellulose with a solvent which comprises an organic solvent and has a total water content (including the water contained in the biomass) of 10 to 25 wt%, and conducting the liquefaction treatment at a temperature ranging from 250 to 350 DEG C.
