Summary:The invention discloses a high temperature superconducting (HTS) composite conductor which comprises metal tubes, an HTS tape and a sheet metal; the cross section of the composite conductor is in the shape of a hollow rectangle or square; the HTS tape and the sheet metal are filled between inner and outer metal tubes; and the HTS tape and the sheet metal are alternately superimposed. The composite conductor can be used for manufacturing a large scale superconducting magnet which works at liquid helium temperature and under liquid nitrogen temperature, and is cooled in a liquid helium and liquid nitrogen forced flow cooling manner; and the composite conductor can save extensive cooling costs particularly under liquid nitrogen cooling.
