A horizontal water tank heat exchanger of a heat pump water heater, comprises a heat exchange tube which is provided with a gas phase working substance inlet, a liquid phase working substance outlet,a phase change heat exchange area, a hydraulic seal area and a transfusion area; and is characterized by further comprising a seal cover fixing the heat exchange tube; wherein the transfusion area isa straight tube; the phase change heat exchange area is a spirally coiled tube, with flow passage height thereof continuously descending along a heat pump working substance flowing direction; and thehydraulic seal area is a circular tube, with an included angle +/- alpha between the plane of the flow passage thereof and the vertical direction being 0 to +/-25 DEG. The heat exchanger has the advantages of easy mounting and demounting and fully using all the heat exchange surface of the heat exchanger so as to help to improve the efficiency of the heat exchanger and the like.
