Summary:Provided is an electro-optical device which is less likely to have display failures etc., and high reliability, while being superior in shock resistance etc. The electro-optical device includes a protective member (19), which protects an electro-optical panel (28) and a holding member (14) which holds the electro-optical panel (28). The protective member (19) is made of a light-transmissive substrate (18) and has a thick portion where the thickness of the light-transmitting substrate (18) is large, thin portions (18a), where the thickness of the light-transmitting substrate is small, the thin portions projecting from the outer circumference of the light-transmitting substrate (18), and step portions (D) provided between the thick portion and thin portions (18a). The holding member (14) has fitting portions (14a) that correspond to the step portions (D) of the protective member (19). The light-transmitting substrate (18) and the electro-optical panel (28) are bonded to each other via an adhesive layer (22).
