Summary:The invention discloses a superconducting winding with overvoltage protection comprising a superconducting winding and a voltage clamping circuit which are parallelly connected. The voltage clamping circuit comprises at least a voltage clamping coil. The turns of the voltage clamping circuit is less than that of the superconducting winding, and the voltage clamping coil and the superconducting winding are wound on the same iron core or the same windings which do not contain the iron core. The voltage clamping circuit can also comprise a resistance which is serially connected with the voltage clamping coil. In the application of limiting the short-circuit current of the power system fault, the invention can effectively prevent the superconducting winding from the overvoltage shock and simultaneously does not influence on the excitation function.
