The invention provides a urea-formaldehyde resin additive used for a wood-based panel, a preparation method thereof as well as urea-formaldehyde resin containing the additive, and the additive contains glycol chemical modification treated wood flour, a water soluble macro molecular compound and inorganic mineral salt. The additive and the urea-formaldehyde resin are combined to be used in the invention, thus essentially reducing the formaldehyde release of the wood-based panel by chemical reaction with formaldehyde during the wood-based panel hot pressing process, furthermore, the mechanical property of the prepared wood-base panel is not decreased, but increased somehow. By fully utilizing the rejects of wood processing, wood flour-the main raw material of the additive of the invention -is low in price, thus saving resources, protecting environment, decreasing production cost and having important economic and social benefits.
