The invention is applicable to a monitoring field, which provides a system for monitoring network video and a method for obtaining data thereof, the system consists of a monitoring terminal, at least a monitoring front-end device and a video conversion device; the video conversion device receives a control command of the monitoring terminal and according to a protocol presupposed by the system converts the command to a corresponding format which is supported by the monitoring front-end device to control the monitoring front-end device, the video conversion device also obtains data flow of different formats from the monitoring front-end device and according to the protocol presupposed by the system carries out packing process for the obtained data flow of different formats and sends the packed data flow to the monitoring terminal. The invention unifies the protocol for data transmission of the network monitoring system, which saves resources of the monitoring system.
