A method for judging disc status includes the following steps: an optical read head is moved to an initial position which is at a preset distance away from the inside track of a disc; the disc is turned for focusing and the optical read head is moved towards the inside track till the read head returns to the original position or the focusing fails; meanwhile, radio frequency integration filtering signal is read and the maximum value and the minimum value of the signal during moving is recorded; when the optical read head stops moving, whether the difference of the maximum value and the minimum value is more than a preset critical value is compared; if the difference is more than the preset critical value, the disc is set as a second type disc; if the difference is less than or equal to the preset critical value, which shows the disc is a first type disc.
