Summary:Disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery wherein gas generation during storage at high temperatures is suppressed and deterioration in rate characteristics is reduced. Specifically disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte for secondary batteries which contains a nonaqueous solvent wherein a solute is dissolved, a first additive and a second additive. The first additive is a vinyl monomer having an electron-donating group, and the second additive is a carbonate having at least one carbon-carbon unsaturated bond. The e value as the polar factor of the vinyl monomer having an electron-donating group is negative. Also specifically disclosed is a secondary battery using such a nonaqueous electrolyte.
