Summary:Disclosed is an electric machine (10) comprising a flat commutator that is provided with a face encompassing planar contact segments (76), and a brush holder (32) which retains, within cartridges (34), brushes (30) that are impinged upon by springs. Said brush holder (32) is provided with holes in the cartridges (34) on the bottom side facing the flat commutator (28), the brushes (30) protruding from said holes and contacting the contact segments (6) of the face of the flat commutator (28). The springs are embodied as scroll springs (40) which are hung on hanging means (36) that are configured laterally on the cartridges (34) by means of hooks (38). The hanging means (36) are disposed on a plane that extends parallel to and at a distance from the planar face of the flat commutator (28). The invention has the advantage of optimizing the efficiency of small DC motors comprising a flat commutator.
