Summary:The invention relates to a hydrothermal method for synthesising a composite zeolite material of clinoptilolite and phillipsite, useful for removing arsenic from drinking water, which comprises: (a) mixing the raw material: a reaction gel formed by a mixture of diatomite, potassium hydroxide and water is added to a stirred reactor provided with a heating jacket, in a molar ratio of: SiO2/Al2O3=11.5; K2O/SiO2=0.8 and H2O/K2O=191, the mixture being stirred at 120-140 rpm for at least 10 minutes and maintained at 130-170°C for at least 5.5 days at autogenous pressure in a static system; (b) cooling: the composite material of clinoptilolite and phillipsite is left to cool for 6-10 hours; and (c) filtering, washing and drying: the material is filtered and washed with plenty of double-distilled water and is finally dried at 120°C for at least 15 hours. The invention also relates to the zeolite material and its use.
