Tablet production in a tablet press is monitored by electronically measuring at 1 the pressing forces applied, and passing the measured values obtained to a computer 4 which provides a statistical evaluation in accordance with an appropriate programme and passes the results to a printing unit 5 for display. The values calculated by the computer are the mean value of the pressing force, the deviation from a predetermined norm and the relative deviation therefrom and all together with the time are printed. An A/D converter 3 delivers a signal from the measuring device 1 to the computer 4 on an approach switch 7 being operated by a plunger of the tablet press. A cam proximity switch 8 provides a repetitive signal corresponding to tablet production rate. The aforesaid mean value is computed from the number of tablets produced between consecutive signals. The printing unit may be triggered intermittently. A visual display 5 may also be provided.
