Summary:An impression tray (10) for the production of jaw impressions in dental medicine has a contour corresponding roughly to that of a section of the oral cavity. The impression tray (10) is made of a thermoplastic material having a glass transition temperature between about 38 DEG C and 57 DEG C and circumferential edges covering neighbouring tissue and formed so as to correspond to the functional muscles and tissue ligaments. The impression tray (10) can be heated above the glass transition temperature of the thermoplastic material outside the oral cavity and can then be inserted in the heated state in the section of the oral cavity of which an impression is to be made. For exact adaptation to the anatomy of the oral cavity, the impression tray is then formed manually to give a final impression tray. After curing the formed final impression tray can be removed from the oral cavity, so that the final impression tray can be produced in a single process step.
