Summary:1278142 Brightening polymeric materials CIBA-GEIGY AG 2 June 1970 [5 June 1969] 26681/70 Heading C3R [Also in Divisions C2, C5 and D1] Polymeric materials are optically brightened by compounds of the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are H, Cl, F, C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy, Ra is H, CN or COOH or a salt, ester or amide thereof, M is H, alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium or amine salt ion, m is 1 or 2, n is 1-3 provided that at least one of R 1 , R 2 and Ra is not H, and when Ra is not H, R 2 is H. An example describes the treatment of polyamide chips. An extensive list of other materials which may be brightened is given.
