Summary:1345014 Fused-ring derivatives of 2-imino- and 2-oxo-thiazolidine E R SQUIBB & SONS Inc 21 April 1971 [4 May 1970] 10575/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R is H, C 1-7 alkyl or alkoxy, aryl-(C 1-7 alkyl), aryl, (C 1-7 alkyl) aryl, OH, halo, NO 2 , NH 2 (possibly substituted), CN, SCN or SH; R1 is H, C 1-7 alkyl, aryl, aryl-(C 1-7 alkyl) or (C 1-7 alkyl) aryl; X is NH or O and n is 1 or 2. The imines are prepared by heating the correspondingly substituted 2-(thiocyanatomethyl) benzimidazole (II); the ketones are prepared by mixing the imines with an aqueous inorganic acid. II may be formed in situ from a 2-(halomethyl) benzimidazole and MSCN, where M is NH 4 or an alkali or alkaline earth metal. Veterinary compositions comprise compounds of the above formula which have anti-inflammatory and parasiticidal activity. In the former case they may be administered as a suspension, ointment or cream, and in the latter case as a feedstuff ingredient. The compounds also have rodenticidal activity.
