Summary:1343484 Turbidometers SCHERICO Ltd 19 April 1971 [17 Feb 1970] 21800/71 Heading G1X Particulate contaminants in a liquid 52 in a container 50 are detected by irradiating the liquid with at least two light beams that intersect therein, rotating the container to agitate the liquid, and receiving light scattered from particles in the liquid on a receiver placed out of the direct line of the irradiating beams. Incident light is introduced through optical fibre bundles 2, 4, Fig. 1 (not shown) and the detector is a vidicon tube 32 whose output is displayed on a viewer (40), e.g. an iconoscope. The container is stopped during the inspection process, and hence any moving images on the screen correspond to contaminants in the liquid and not container defects. An optical screen 60 is provided which only transmits light reflected from particles above a predetermined size. In this way the apparatus may be used for measuring particle size, in addition to detecting and counting particles.
