Summary: | 1,245,425. Wet-spun polyamide filaments. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 21 Nov., 1968 [21 Nov., 1967], No. 55376/68. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] Filaments may be wet-spun from solutions obtained by the anionic polymerization of a non-N-substituted # lactam in a solvent which is a solution of 0À9 to 50 wt. per cent of a lithium halide, cyanide, thiocyanate, azide or cyanate in a neutral or weakly basic C 1-12 organic liquid containing at least 2 atoms from Group V or VI of the Periodic Table linked with one another directly or via carbon and a semi-polar or double bond at at least one of such atoms. Other polymers e.g. polycaprolactam or polyacrylonitrile may also be dissolved in the solutions. In examples homo- or copolymers are prepared from the following monomers: 4- methyl-, vinyl-, n-butyl- or phenyl-azetidinone; 4,4 - dimethyl azetidinone; 4 - methyl - 4 - npropyl azetidinone; azetidinone; a lactam of the formula and cis or trans-3,4-dimethyl azetidinone, using as solvent LiCl in dimethyl formamide, acetamide or sulphoxide, pyrrolidone, methyl pyrrolidone, phosphoric acid tris dimethylamide or glycol carbonate; LiBr in dimethyl acetamide or formamide; or LiI in dimethyl formamide. Polymers of R.V. between 5À1 and 9À9 (1% in H 2 SO 4 at 20 C.) are obtained. In examples, such spinning solutions are spun into a coagulating bath of dimethyl formamide and water, or of water and the resulting filaments drawn in water at 72 C. to 80 C. to a draw ratio of from 3À4:1 to 4À8:1, rewashed and dried. |
