Summary:1,108,745. Photographic supersensitized silver halide emulsions. AGFA A. G. March 11, 1965 [March 11, 1964J, No. 10387/65. Heading G2C. Silver halide emulsion layers containing penta, hepta- and nona-methine cyanines dyes are supersensitized with a heterocyclic mercapto compound, the heterocyclic ring being an oxazine, oxazone, oxazole, thiazole, thiadiazole, imidazole and tetrazole ring substituted by at least one electro-negative substituent. Specified electro-negative substituents are CF 3 sulpho, sulphone, sulphonamide, halogen, carboxy, and phenyl. Specified dyes have the methine chain attached to thiazole, benzthiazole, naphthothiazole, oxazole, benzoxazole, naphthoxazole, naphthonazine, selenazole, benzselenazole, naphthoselenazole, imadazole, benzimidazole, indolene, pyrrolidine, tetrazole, thiodiazole and quinoline rings which may be substituted by alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl or the above heterocyclic groups. The emulsion may also comprise colour-couplers, sensitizers (noble metal, stannous and sulphur compounds, polyamines, polyethylene oxides) stabilizers (mercury compounds, triazoles and azaindenes) and hardening agents (formaldehyde mucobromic acid).
