Summary:Polychloro and polychlorobromo copper phthalocyanines which have been subjected to a grinding process, with or without a grinding auxiliary in the presence or absence of a liquid of the benzene series, is heated at a temperature of 70-210 DEG C., preferably 100-150 DEG C., in the presence of a liquid of the benzene series which is then removed by conventional means, e.g. filtration or steam distillation. The grinding auxiliaries may or may not be removed before the heating process at 70-210 DEG C. Liquids of the benzene series used are preferably those which are not miscible with water, e.g. benzene, toluene, xylene, chlorobenzene and nitrobenzene.
