Summary: | The light stability of polyamide structures is improved by adding to the polyamide or to the starting materials used for the manufacture thereof, a polyphosphate complex produced by reacting a salt of cobalt, nickel, chromium, copper or manganese with an alkali metal polyphosphate or an alkali metal polymetaphosphate. The preferred polyphosphate complexes are those made by reacting a salt of cobalt, nickel, chromium, copper or manganese with a trisodium or hexasodium polyphosphate or polymetaphosphate. In the Examples: (1) aqueous manganese hexametaphosphate and (2) a corresponding cobalt complex are added to shreaded polycaprolactam containing titanium dioxide.ALSO:Manganese hexametaphosphate solution is made by mixing an aqueous solution of manganese acetate with a solution of hexasodium hexametaphosphate containing 1.2 times the theoretical quantity of hexasodium hexametaphosphate required to react with the manganous acetate and drying in a drying chamber, |
