Summary:In Example (1) a composition is described which comprises 1,200 parts by weight of a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, 480 parts of plasticizer, 624 parts of amyl acetate, 680 parts of volatile petroleum naphtha and 30 parts of puffing agent. The vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer contained 90 parts of vinyl chloride to 10 parts of vinyl acetate. The plasticizer was a polymeric polyester type, and the puffing agent was p, p1-oxy bis (benzene sulphonyl hydrazide). The ingredients, except the puffing agent, were added to a jar half filled with porcelain balls of about 1/2 inch diameter and the jar was rolled for about 16 hours after which the puffing agent was added and the jar rolled for a further 2 1/2 hours. Example (3) describes a composition comprising a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, a condensation product of epichlorhydrin and bisphenol A, adipyl dihydrazide (curing agent for the epoxy resin) amyl acetate, petroleum naphtha and a puffing agent. Example (4) describes a composition comprising a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, an epoxy resin as in (3), 2, 4-toluene disulphonamide (epoxy curing agent) N-(3-diethylaminopropyl) phthalimide salicylate (activator for epoxy curing agent), amyl acetate, naphtha and puffing agent (p-diphenyl diazanium fluoborate, which functions additionally as a curing agent for the epoxy resin). The compositions may also contain carbon black, aluminium powder, silica and bentonite. The compositions are formed into sheets and p exposed to radiant energy to cause expansion and, when an epoxy resin is present, curing.ALSO:In Example (1) a composition comprises 1200 parts by weight of a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, 480 parts of plasticiser, 624 parts of amyl acetate, 680 parts of volatile petroleum naphtha and 30 parts of puffing agent.
