Summary: | 1417421 Rubber - containing aminoplast moulding compositions BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS Ltd 5 April 1973 [11 April 1972] 16737/72 Heading C3R An aminoplast moulding composition is obtained by mixing an aminoplast resin syrup with a rubber latex and drying the mixture to form a powder wherein the proportion of rubber is preferably up to 30 wt. per cent of the aminoplast resin, more preferably 2-15%. A filler, e.g. alpha-cellulose and/or a curing catalyst and/or rubber cross-linking agent may be compounded with the powder, or the filler may be added before the drying step. In the examples a melamine - formaldehyde syrup is mixed with 5 p.h.r. (solids basis) of a 50% carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex or 10 p.h.r. of a carboxylated acrylonitrile-butadiene latex and spray-dried; the product powders are compounded with phthalic anhydride, ZnO, stearic acid or sulphur, dicumyl peroxide and zinc stearate, extruded as sheets, kibbled and granulated to give moulding compositions. |
