Summary: | Nonmetallic cartridges having a porous casing of fiber-reinforced nitrocellulose are rendered oil and water resistant by first incorporating into the casing an organosilicon compound which renders the casing material essentially impervious to liquid water but which does not substantially alter the porosity of the material and then providing a continuous coating on the surface of the casing, the coating being a room temperature curing resinous organosiloxane having from 1.2 to 1.8 organic substituents per silicon atom, the major portion of the organic substituents being lower alkyl and/or phenyl radicals. |
