A method of controlling lost circulation includes introducing into a wellbore a lost circulation fluid comprising: an external oil phase, an internal aqueous phase, an emulsifier, a wetting agent, a magnesia sealant, and a; retarder; contacting the lost circulation fluid with a lost circulation zone; and forming a plug adjacent the lost circulation zone by reacting the magnesia sealant with water at a wellbore temperature, thereby reducing fluid loss into the lost circulation zone. Procédé de régulation de la perte de circulation consistant à introduire, dans un puits de forage, un colmatant comprenant : une phase huileuse externe, une phase aqueuse interne, un émulsifiant, un agent mouillant, un agent d'étanchéité à base de magnésie et un retardateur; à mettre en contact le colmatant avec une zone de perte de circulation; et à former un bouchon au voisinage immédiat de la zone de perte de circulation par réaction de l'agent d'étanchéité à base de magnésie avec de l'eau à la température du puits de forage, ce qui va réduire la perte de fluide dans la zone de perte de circulation.
