A method for controlling a printing process by which a print head prints an image onto a label affixed to a tube positioned adjacent to the print head and adjacent to a sensor configured to detect optical and/or physical features of the label, the method comprising: (a) transmitting a command to the sensor to detect the presence of the label affixed to the tube, wherein the sensor either: (1) fails to generate a signal indicating the presence of the label, or (2) generates a signal indicating the presence of the label; (b) if the sensor generates a signal indicating the presence of the label in step (a), then transmitting a command to the sensor to detect a position of a timing mark on the label, wherein the sensor fails to generate a signal indicating the position of a timing mark on the label; and (c) if the sensor fails to generate a signal indicating the presence of the label in step (a) or the sensor fails to generate a signal indicating the position of a timing mark on the label in step (b), then selectively activating the print head while effecting relative movement between the print head and the label to print multiple alternate images at multiple positions on the label. Il est décrit une méthode de contrôle dun procédé dimpression par laquelle une tête dimpression imprime une image sur une étiquette fixée à un tube positionné de manière adjacente à la tête dimpression et à un capteur configuré pour détecter des caractéristiques optiques et/ou physiques de létiquette. La méthode comprend : a) la transmission dune commande au capteur pour détecter la présence de létiquette fixée au tube, le capteur (1) échouant à générer un signal indiquant la présence de létiquette ou (2) générant un signal indiquant la présence de létiquette; b) si le capteur génère un signal indiquant la présence de létiquette à létape a), la transmission dune commande au capteur pour détecter une position dun repère de distribution de létiquette, le capteur échouant à produire un signal indiquant la position du repère de distribution de létiquette; c) si le capteur échoue à générer un signal indiquant la présence de létiquette à létape a) ou échoue à produire un signal indiquant la position dun repère de distribution sur létiquette à létape b), lactivation sélective de la tête dimpression en entraînant un mouvement relatif entre la tête dimpression et létiquette pour imprimer de multiples images alternatives à plusieurs positions de létiquette.
