The invention pertains to a method for producing lactide comprising the steps of - providing a solution of lactic acid in a volatile organic solvent, - subjecting the solution to an evaporation step to remove volatile organic solvent and water, resulting in the formation of a composition comprising lactic acid oligomer, - adding catalyst to the composition comprising lactic acid oligomer, and bringing the mixture to reaction conditions, to form lactide. It has been found that the process according to the invention results in the efficient production of lactide with a high production rate and a good product quality. L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de production de lactide comprenant les étapes consistant - à utiliser une solution d'acide lactique dans un solvant organique volatil, - à soumettre la solution à une étape d'évaporation afin d'éliminer le solvant organique volatil et l'eau, résultant en la formation d'une composition comprenant un oligomère d'acide lactique, - à ajouter un catalyseur à la composition comprenant l'oligomère d'acide lactique, et - amener le mélange à des conditions de réaction, pour former un lactide. Il a été découvert que le procédé selon l'invention permet de produire avec un bon rendement un lactide avec une vitesse de production élevée et une bonne qualité de produit.
