The cable is stretchable in that the optical fibers experience less than 0.5 dB/km of increased average attenuation at 1310 nanometers wavelength when the cable experiences strain of up to 2x10-3. La présente invention concerne un câble optique qui comprend un élément de renforcement, des tubes accouplés à l'élément de renforcement, et des fibres optiques. L'élément de renforcement fournit une résistance à la traction et au flambement. Les tubes possèdent une cavité dans laquelle les fibres optiques sont montées. Le câble est étirable en ce que les fibres optiques subissent une atténuation moyenne accrue inférieure à 0,5 dB/km à une longueur d'onde de 1 310 nm lorsque le câble subit une contrainte pouvant atteindre 2x10-3.
