Summary:A crash attenuator includes a frame having a first frame member and a second frame member rigidly connected with a hinge assembly in a pre-impact configuration. The first and second frames are hingedly connected with the hinge assembly in an impact configuration, wherein the hinge assembly comprises a living hinge when the hinge assembly is in the impact configuration. A method of using the crash attenuator is also provided. L'invention concerne un atténuateur d'impact qui inclut un châssis ayant un premier élément de châssis et un second élément de châssis raccordés rigides à un ensemble formant charnière dans une configuration pré-impact. Les premier et second châssis sont raccordés de manière articulée à l'ensemble formant charnière dans une configuration d'impact, l'ensemble formant charnière comprenant une charnière active lorsque l'ensemble formant charnière est dans la configuration d'impact. L'invention concerne aussi un procédé d'utilisation de l'atténuateur d'impact.
