Also provided is a method for treating the waste stream from a purified terephthalic acid (PTA) process, the method comprising contacting a waste stream containing carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and methyl bromide with a catalyst comprising a first base metal catalyst supported on an oxygen donating support that is substantially free of alumina, and at least one second base metal catalyst. L'invention concerne un catalyseur pour oxyder un monoxyde de carbone (CO), des composés organiques volatils (VOC) et un bromure de méthyle (CH3Br). Le catalyseur comprend un premier catalyseur métallique de base supporté sur un support donneur d'oxygène qui est sensiblement exempt d'alumine, et au moins un second catalyseur métallique de base. L'invention concerne également un procédé pour traiter le flux de déchets provenant du traitement de l'acide téréphthalique purifié (PTA), consistant à mettre en contact un flux de déchets contenant un monoxyde de carbone (CO), des composés organiques volatils (VOC) et un bromure de méthyle (CH3Br) avec un catalyseur comprenant un premier catalyseur métallique de base supporté sur un support donneur d'oxygène qui est sensiblement exempt d'alumine, et au moins un second catalyseur métallique de base.
