Summary:Disclosed herein is a fireproof ceramic base in a connection area to at least one wall of a vessel suitable for treatment of a high temperature melt. The fireproof ceramic base combines features of a permanent lining having a surface that is adjacent to a wear lining that is planar and sloped compared to the horizontal to provide a 3-dimensional design including at least one step. The configuration and 3-dimensional design enables the application of fireproof ceramic solid bricks of the wear lining the majority of which are identical with a rectangular or polygonal profile in a top view that can be applied in a single layer. The work required in the production of such fireproof ceramic bases is significantly reduced as it is easier to provide a 3-D profile of a cast monolithic material by the use of a corresponding template upon which the bricks are applied.
